Continuing Down the West Sumatran Coast

We enjoyed the brief stop at Ranu Surf Camp (Lodge), but as a swelly anchorage we didn't care to spend another night. So the next day we headed another 30 miles south and east for a stop at Pulau Lasia (Lasia Island). Other cruisers had said this was a must stop. It looked fantastic from the satellite pictures. It is a nature reserve with just a couple of rangers on shore, but no real restrictions on visiting boats.

Our two other buddy boats, that had gone down the other side of the last island, were planning to stop at Pulau Lasia for a couple of days. We tried to actually sail on this leg, and for a couple of hours, we managed, hard on the wind, but in very light air. Finally as we approached the island, the wind died and we motored in. When we got around the corner to where the anchorage was, my God, it was beautiful! Beautiful sand beach, clear water, no swell, and shallow enough depths for easy anchoring.

Finally in a nice anchorage, we invited everyone over to Soggy Paws for Sunset on the Foredeck.
Ahhh... Finally, One of my Favorite Parts of Cruising!

The next morning, we sent a contingent ashore to say hello to the Rangers, and make sure it was OK to build a fire on the beach. Around noon, we all converged on the beach and set up for a true Aussie barbecue.

Nice Beach Barbecue!!

We did a little snorkeling. We did a lotta sitting in the shallow water telling sea stories and drinking beer. It was fun. And we moved on the next day toward the Banyak Islands. Onward!
